Cultury is a small editorial publication. We try to collect as little personal data from our readers as possible, and to use what we do collect only for the purposes for which it was given. This page describes the practice in plain language.
Cultury is published by the editors who appear on our About page. Correspondence may be addressed to [email protected], or by post to 28 Safia Zaghloul Street, Raml Station, 21521, Alexandria Governorate, Egypt.
When you read an article on Cultury, our server records standard technical information — your IP address, the URL you requested, the time of the request, and the user-agent of the browser you are using. This is retained for thirty days, then deleted. It is used to keep the site running and to protect against crude forms of abuse.
If you fill in the contact form, we receive your name, email, and message. These are used to reply to you. They are not added to a mailing list, and they are not shared with anyone. We keep the correspondence for no longer than two years.
If you subscribe to our monthly letter, we keep your email address for as long as you remain a subscriber. We use it to send the letter and for nothing else. We do not share the subscriber list with any third party. There is an unsubscribe link at the foot of every letter; a single click ends the subscription.
We use one essential record in local storage to remember whether you have accepted or declined our use of analytics. We may also, with your consent, use a privacy-respecting analytics tool that produces aggregate reader statistics without setting tracking cookies or profiling individual readers. We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site trackers, or pixels belonging to any social-media company.
You are welcome to ask us what we know about you, to correct anything we have wrong, and to ask us to delete it. Write to [email protected]. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or a comparable jurisdiction, the right to complain to your national data-protection authority is always available to you; it is the right course of action if you believe we have behaved badly.
Our hosting is outside Egypt, which means the technical information described above passes, briefly, through infrastructure in other countries. We work only with providers who offer appropriate safeguards under applicable data-protection law.
Cultury is written for an adult audience. We do not knowingly collect data from readers under the age of thirteen, and we do not market to them.
If we change this policy we will revise the date at the top of the page. Substantive changes will be announced in the monthly letter.
